Born into a wealthy family, Raymond Thibésart was born in Bar-sur-Aube on 2 May 1874. Soon after, his parents moved to Enghien-les-Bains, in the immediate suburbs of Paris. It was there that the Thibésarts met a Venezuelan family that had just arrived in France, the Boggios. Very gifted in drawing, Thibésart admired Emile Boggio, 17 years his senior, who gave him his first lessons at the age of eleven. Emile Boggio, a talented Venezuelan Impressionist painter, became Raymond Thibésart’s first teacher.
